Nancy L. Joly

It is with extreme regret we announce the death of Nancy L. Joly, 85, of Ogdensburg.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 7, 2019, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral, with Rev. Joseph Morgan as Celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  As per her request, there will be no public visitation.    Mrs. Joly died on October 5th,  2019 at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Ogdensburg. Where she had been a resident since August of 2018.

Arrangements are under the direction of LaRue & Pitcher Funeral Home.

Nancy L. Joly was born on January 10, 1934, in Canton, NY.  She was the daughter of the late Donald and Harriette (Gallinger) Place.  After graduating high school she went to Nursing School at Hepburn Hospital, where she became a Registered Nurse.    She did private duty as a Registered Nurse at Hepburn Hospital for many years, she also worked at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and later for St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services as a Case Manager.   On June 18th, 1955 she married Kenneth Wainwright at St. Mary’s Church in Canton.  Mr. Wainwright passed away in 1981.   On May 10, 1986, she married John Joly at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg.   Nancy loved tending to her flowers, decorating and taking care of her home,  she was a devout Catholic.  She took great care of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.   She loved spending time with her husband John.   She volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul.  She was a eucharistic minister and served on the bereavement committee at Notre Dame Church.

She is survived by her husband John Joly, her children; Margaret “Peggy” A. Carpenter and her husband Larry of Kalamazoo, MI, Michael K. Wainwright and his wife Dottie of Russell, Katherine L. Weegar and her companion James Bleau of Ogdensburg and Nicole E. Joly of Ogdensburg.   She is also survived by her stepchildren; Mary L. Wills and her husband Michael of Ogdensburg and John J. Joly and his wife Leah of Essex Junction, VT.  13 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren survive her.   She is also survived by her sister Pat Goolden of Hannawa Falls, Susan Robinson of Canton, her brother; Thomas Place of Lake Ozonia and her brother-in-law Bob Agel of Higley Flow.   Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

She was predeceased by her first husband Kenneth Wainwright, her sister; Mary Lou Agel and her Brothers-in-law Gary Goolden and Jeffrey Robinson and a nephew, Jamie Robinson.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to the St. Joseph’s Foundation 950 Linden St. Ogdensburg, NY 13669.  During her early illness she enjoyed attending Mass at the Chapel at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.
