OGDENSBURG- A visitation for Leaman R. Simmons, 79, of Ogdensburg will be held on Friday, November 8th, 2019 at the LaRue & Pitcher Funeral Home from 2-6 p.m., Mr. Simmons died on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Arrangements are under the direction of LaRue & Pitcher Funeral Home.
Leaman R. Simmons was born on January 23, 1940, in Gouverneur, NY. He was the son of the late Robert and Harriette (Bailey), Simmons. He served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman. He married Lucille Ada Dishaw, their marriage would end in divorce. On June 16, 1972, he married Barbara Billado. Barbara died on February 23, 2013. Leaman worked for many years at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida as a maintenance man, a job that he truly loved and was extremely proud of. Leaman enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching sports and spending time with friends and family, especially making memories with them, taking them to Walt Disney World.
Leaman is survived by his children; Vaughne Barkley of Heuvelton, Dawn (James) Stevenson of Potsdam and Terry Lynn (Chuck) Melton of Kissimmee, Florida. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Christian Simmons who was like a son in his heart, Felicia Chase of Oklahoma City, Kaitlyn Melton of Kissimmee, Britney (Billy) Robertson of Waddington, Jeremy Barkley of Georgia, Michael Simmons of Newburgh, NY, Brandie Ashley of Pennsylvania, Destiny (Darin) Ashley of Potsdam, Steven Ashley Jr. of Dannemora and Missy Marion. His nieces; Casey Carter and Mandi Robertson and nephew Brice Robertson, Leo Spriggs his best friend and numerous great-grandchildren also survive him.
He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Simmons, his son, Leaman Simmons Jr., his grandson Marty Barkley. He was also predeceased by his brothers Robert, Gene, Gary and Issac Simmons and his sister Beverly Hazelton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Leaman’s memory may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley. 6805 US Route 11 Potsdam, NY 13676.
