Kerry R. Thornton

February 29, 1924 — June 7, 2017

OGDENSBURG-Graveside services for Kerry R. Thornton, 93, of Ogdensburg will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Ogdensburgh Cemetery, with Rev. Donna Fitchette officiating.   Full Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery.

Mr. Thornton died on Wednesday June 7, 2017 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center emergency room.

Arrangements are under the direction of LaRue & Pitcher Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.

Kerry R. Thornton was born on February 29, 1924 in Depeyster, NY, he was the son of the late Burdon and Mary (Rounds) Thornton.  He received his diploma from Heuvelton Central School.  He served in the United States Army during World War Two.  On January 22, 1949 he married Sally Farley at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ogdensburg. He worked as a Crane Operator at ALCOA in Massena for over forty years.  He was a member of the Depeyster United Methodist Church, he enjoyed fishing, ice fishing especially, reading, working, crossword puzzles, feeding birds and taking walks.

 

He is survived by his nephews Kerry Merritt and his wife Cindy of Depeyster and Merle Thornton and his wife Starr of Saranac.  He is also survived by his niece; Carolyn Myers of Gasport, NY. 

He was predeceased by his wife Sally Thornton on March 2, 2016.  He was also predeceased by his brothers; Merlyn and Clint Thornton and his sister Jean Merritt.
