John R. Dashnaw, 70, died on September 15, 2015, at his home in Silsbee, Texas. Calling hours will be 11 am – 1 PM , September 15, the funeral service will be September 15, at 2 PM, at the Pine Hill Cemetery, Eel Weir Road, Town of Oswegatchie, with military honors. He is survived by his wife Gayle, a son Ray and daughter in law, Roxann Dashnaw of Nashville, Tennessee, brothers, Howard and wife Beverly Dashnaw, James and his wife JoAnn Dashnaw, Gary and his wife Ginger Dashnaw, Larry and his wife Toung Dashnaw, sisters, Betty Tenter, Arloween and her husband Jack Eurto, Bertha and her husband Gary Haight, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles and Julius Dashnaw, and a sister Helen Yerdon. John was born on March 7, 1945 in Ogdensburg the son of the late William H. and Hilda Thayer Dashnaw. After graduation from high school he was in the U.S. Marines in the Vietnam War, where he received the Purple Heart Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He married Gayle Marie Crowell and was a sawmill operator for Willamette Lumber Company.
