Jerome "Buzz" W. Sawyer

HERMON-A Memorial Service for Jerome “Buzz” W. Sawyer, 71, of Hermon will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019, at 3 p.m. at the LaRue & Pitcher Funeral Home, located at 324 New York Ave. Ogdensburg, NY. With Rev. Robert Browning officiating.  A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.   Mr. Sawyer died on Monday, December 9th, 2019 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of LaRue & Pitcher Funeral Home.

Jerome W. Sawyer or “Buzz” as he was lovingly known was born on April 30th, 1948 in Carthage, NY.  He was the son of Mary (Fuller) Sawyer and the late Richard Sawyer.  Buzz served in the United States Navy from 1966 until 1978.  On July 15, 1995, he married Susan M. (Wood) Sharpe at the Hermon Methodist Church. 

In his younger years, he earned the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout. He loved to hunt, fish and travel. He was a skilled carpenter and mechanic.   Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs.

He is survived by his wife Susan M. Sawyer, his children; Lovina (Michael) Leon of California, Elizabeth (John Michael) Koutsantanou of Georgia,  John Sharpe of Hermon, Sue Ellen LaPoint of Russell, Thomas (Donna) Sharpe of Star Lake and Joseph (Megan) Sharpe of Hermon. He is survived by his mother Mary Sawyer of Russell, sister, Judy (Charlie) Tupper of Russell and his brother, Richard (Donna) Sawyer of Gouverneur. Seventeen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive him.

He was predeceased by his father, Richard Sawyer, his Brother, Rodney Sawyer, and sister-in-law Joanna Sawyer.

The family asks that donations in Buzz’s memory be made to the Potsdam Humane Society 17 Madrid Ave, Potsdam, NY 13676.
