Mourning the Loss of Good Samaritan: Janice A. Mehaffy (Ann)

Janice A Mehaffy (Ann) died December 14th at the age of 73 of Blood Cancer. As a regular contributor and Board Member of The Neighborhood Center she fulfilled a lifelong passion of helping those less fortunate and people in need.

Born in 1937, Janice was the daughter of Mildred (Milly) and John D. Paige owners of Paige's Grocery, the first ice cream store in town. She is predeceased by her brother, Paul Paige, daughter, Cheryl Long and former husband Larry Pelkey. She is survived by daughters Charmaine Shaver, Ogdensburg; Lorie Sampier, Bumpass, Virginia; Lisa Scano, Bethpage, New York; Lynn Mehaffy-Jones, Alexandria, Virginia and former husband Loren Mehaffy, Dekalb Junction. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren Jamie Shaver, Dillion and Loren Sampier, Jessica and Nicholas Scano, Paul Jones and great grandchildren; Madeline and Haven Shaver.

During life Janice served the community in a variety of ways as an officer of the election board and volunteer with the community development program. She was an active member of Notre Dame Catholic Church and the Ogdensburg Senior Citizens Association. Janice enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, travel and theater. She was a mother, a friend and a mentor to many, and she will be dearly missed.

Calling Hours will be from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Allen Nichols Funeral Home on Friday, December 16, 2011. Funeral service will be at Notre Dame Church, 12:00 PM, December 17th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Neighborhood Center.
