OGDENSBURG- A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen L. Callahan, 85, of Ogdensburg will be celebrated on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church with Rev. F. James Shurtleff as celebrant. Calling hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2017 at the LaRue & Pitcher Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Mrs. Callahan died on July 31st, 2017 at the Riverledge Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.
Arrangements are under the direction of LaRue & Pitcher Funeral Home.
Helen L. Callahan was born on May 22, 1932 to Leo and Dora (Rapin) Lesperance. She attended St. Peter’s and Holy Cross School and St. Mary’s Academy. She was employed by the Cleveland Container Corporation, J.J. Newberry and Ames Department Store. Helen retired from Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center after over 30 years in the Food Service Department. On April 14, 1972, she married Donald B. Callahan. Helen was a lifelong member of the Notre Dame Church. She enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening and raising flowers, watching HGTV, looking at old photographs, post cards and antiques of all kinds.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Jo (Thomas) Doe of Ogdensburg and two sons, David Lesperance of Ogdensburg and Kerry Oakes of Malone, NY. She is survived by her stepchildren; Donald (Karen) Callahan, Bonnie (Chris) Gilbert and Mary Kay (Jim) Lewis. Her sisters; Sylvia (Richard) Lockwood, Donna (Jack) Bromley and Regina (Gary) Thompson, six grand-children, several step grand-children and great grand-children, nieces and nephews also survive her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, her parents, a sister Theresa and four brothers; Joseph, Jude, Edgar and James Lesperance and a step-son Gary Callahan.
