George H. Griffith

OGDENSBURG-Funeral Services for George H. Griffith, 88, of Ogdensburg will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. the First Congregational Church of Ogdensburg with Pastor David Hart officiating. Calling hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the LaRue & Pitcher Funeral Home on Monday, June 26, 2017.  Mr. Griffith died on Friday, June 23, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.  Burial will be private.

Arrangements are under the direction of LaRue & Pitcher Funeral Home.

George H. Griffith was born on August 16, 1928 in Ogdensburg, NY.  He was the son of the late Henry and Ruth (Wilcox) Griffith.  He was a 1946 graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy. On June 18th, 1949 he married Mary “Lillian” Pollard at the First Congregational Church of Ogdensburg, the couple celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary this month. George worked for the State Hospital as a Mechanic until his retirement in 1984.  Following his retirement George worked for the Nichols Funeral Home and later the Allen-Nichols Funeral, assisting with funeral services.  George was a member of the Ogdensburgh Cemetery Association, the International Order of Oddfellows (I.O.O.F), Ogdensburg Acacian Lodge #128 Free and Accepted Masons and an active member of the First Congregational Church of Ogdensburg for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary “Lillian” Griffith, his daughters Robin Hooper of Ogdensburg and Roxanne Delarge and her husband Steve of Clifton Park, NY.  He is also survived by his grandsons; John G. Delarge of Boston, MA and Sam P. Delarge of Berea, OH.  Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brothers; John “Jack” Griffith and Elmer Griffith and his sister Mae Marks.
