Emma Ruth Gilmour

Emma Ruth Gilmour, 84, of Ogdensburg, died on January 20, 2014, at her home. Calling hours will be Thursday, January 23, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home. A funeral service will be Friday, January 24, 11 am at the Presbyterian Stone Church, Pastor David Hart officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery. Emma Ruth is survived by sons, David and his wife Jane Gilmour, of Ogdensubrg, Robert and wife Kathy Gilmour, of Ogdensburg, John Gilmour of Ogdensburg, daughters, April and husband Peter Bruyere, of Ogdensburg, Sue Ann and husband Mike Stoner,of Heuvelton, 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Milford Gilmour, a grandson Jameson Gilmour, a daughter in law, Brenda Henderson Gilmour, brothers Spencer, Leonard and Danford Kirby, and a sister, Mable Ghize. Emma Ruth was born on May 25, 1929 in the Town of Oswegatchie to Milford and Avis Carter Kirby. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy, and then married John Floyd Gilmour on April 8, 1948 at the Presbyterian Stone Church, he died on October 25, 2013. She was a homemaker and previous to that a therapy aide at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center till her retirement. She had also worked for the St. Lawrence County Department Of Social Services. Emma Ruth attended the Presbyterian Stone Church where she was very active as an Elder in Session, Sunday School Teacher, on the Cemetery, Church Festival, Memory Lane, Building and Stone Wall Building Committees, she taught also Vacation Bible School. She was a 4H leader (teaching sewing and cooking), a member if the Daughters of the Americn Revolution, was on the Board at the Salvation Army, hosted several foreign exchange students, and was an advocate for the disadvantaged. She was an artist (used water colors, paints and clay), liked to identify flowers and wild life, sew, write stories (especially birth stories) loved children and was an avid tree hugger.
