Beulah E. Baxter

March 4, 1920 — February 23, 2017

LISBON- Funeral services for Beulah E. Baxter, 96, of Lisbon will be held on Saturday, February  25, 2017. at 2 p.m.  at the LaRue & Pitcher Funeral Home  with Rev. Tom Nichols officiating.  Calling hours will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will  follow the service in the Flackville Cemetery.

Mrs. Baxter died on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Riverledge Nursing Home in Ogdensburg.

Arrangements are under the direction of LaRue & Pitcher Funeral Home.

Beulah Eliza Beamish-Baxter was born on March 4, 1920 in Deferiet, NY.  She was the daughter of the late Moody S. and Irene (Bullis) Beamish.  From the age of one, she was a lifelong resident of Lisbon, she attended the district # 9 country school on the Pray Road for two years. From 1927 until 1937 she attended the Lisbon High School, graduating the Valedictorian of her Class.    She worked as a book-keeper for Stanley Dwyer in Lisbon until 1941.  She then became an office and laboratory employee for the Doughnut Corp of Lisbon from 1941 until 1943, after which she went to work for Nate’s Auto Parts until 1944.  She was made manager of Nate’s Auto Parts, Branch Store in Massena and worked there until 1946.  

 

On May 28, 1946, she married Lowell L. Baxter at the Ogdensburg Congregational Church, Lowell died in October of 1982.  They started their life together on the Murphy Road in Lisbon and then lived for four years on the Dezell Road and in August of 1952 they bought their home on route 68.  

 

Beulah was a member of the TOPS organization for many years, she started TOPS Flackville Chapter 664 and was also a member of the TOPS Honor Society.  Beulah was a member of the Flackville Methodist Church and loved to garden, crochet, knit, play cards and cook.

 

Beulah is survived by 4 children; Carl Baxter and his wife Phyllis of Lisbon, Douglas Baxter and his wife Karen of Canton, Donald Baxter and his wife Sue of Ogdensburg and John Baxter and his wife Sally of Ogdensburg.  She is also survived by her son in law Stephen Perry of Waddington and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Beulah was predeceased by her daughter Diane Perry on January 3, 2017 and her sister Thelma Grenier in 1963.

 

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department 7002 County Route 10 Lisbon, NY 13658, the Lisbon American Legion 6991 County Route 10 Lisbon, NY 13658 or the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA 6718 NY-68, Ogdensburg, NY 13669.
